CCK190 Wanton Mee @ Circuit Road – After A Year’s Break, The Shiok Wanton Mee is Back

IMG_8650ed

Fans of CCK190 Wanton Mee be rejoiced, your favourite wanton mee stall has re-opened at Circuit Road Block 89 Market and Food Centre. The friendly couple, Uncle Danny and Auntie Yvonne has decided to follow their passion after a year break from closing their previous stall at Choa Chu Kang.

Wanton Mee with Chilli 4.2/5

The Wanton Mee with Chilli ($2.50/$3/$3.50) comes with reasonable thick slices of char siew which is roasted at the stall itself. The char siew has a bit of char at the edges, not overly sweet and quite moist in texture. Besides the springy egg noodles, the highlight is the chilli sauce that has a spicy kick to it. The chill is definitely hot and spicy but it does not throw the balance of the dish off but complement it. It is understand that the stall takes up to 4 hours to prepare the homemade chilli sauce.

Dark Sauce Wanton Mee 4.5/5

If you prefer something less spicy or sweeter, the Wanton Mee with Dark Sauce ($2.50/$3/$3.50) will be my recommended choice. The dark sauce provided the additional dimension to the simple plate of noodle, giving it a more elevated enjoyment.

Wanton Soup 3.8/5

Fried Wanton 4/5

The stall offers both the Wanton Soup and Fried Wanton. The wanton skin was a tad thick for the soup version but it works for me when it comes to the fried wanton. The thickness of the wanton skin when fried is even crispier.

Dumpling Soup 4/5

Fried Dumpling 4/5

Besides the wantons, we also tried the Dumpling Soup and Fried Dumpling. Both versions were as good, stuffed with minced pork and prawn to the brim. It is quite generous with its filling for a substantial enjoyment.

A typical day for uncle Danny and auntie Yvonne starts at 3am, making their way to the stall to prepare all the ingredients to serve their customer at 6am. They roast their char siew, wrap their own dumplings and wantons, cook their own chilli paste. A lot of hardwork is behind the delicious plate of wanton mee. I am glad that I got the chance to try their wanton mee. Thanks for making a return.

For those of you who have been a big fan of CCK 190 Wanton Mee, good news for you. Uncle Danny & Aunty Yvonne took one year break and they are now back in action – not at Choa Chu Kang anymore, but they have opened their brand new outlet in Circuit Road!

Aunty Yvonne learnt the ropes from her uncle about 20 years ago and opened a wanton mee shop with her husband Danny in Choa Chu Kang. Last year they took a break to enjoy life but eventually realised that they miss having their own stall, so they decided to make a comeback recently – not in Choa Chu Kang anymore, but in Circuit Road.

They left the house at 3am almost everyday to come to the stall to prepare ingredients. Yes, they roast the char siew in the shop, cook the soup and wrap their own dumplings. That is really hard work but Aunty Yvonne never complains. All she said was, β€œI am used to it.” Indeed, it was their passion and friendliness that attracted many diners. Even for regulars who has been eating their noodles in Choa Chu Kang, they don’t mind travelling all the way here to just have a plate of wanton mee.

The char siew is reasonably moist with minimal colouring and is sliced thicker than other stalls. The fried dumpling was the killer. Made from pork paste and mini prawn, they were substantial and juicy. Eat with a mouthful of noodles and we were all putting a thumbs up. The wantons, however, had a bit too much thick wonton skin for my liking.

This is one Wanton Mee that is anything but simple. The springy egg noodles were what I liked most. Uncle Danny tosses amazing noodles that is cooked perfectly with no alkaline taste. ere, each strand is retains its springy texture and original taste even after standing for 10 minutes. Best of all, the noodles did not clump together. Aunty Yvonne shared, the tossing of the noodles play an important role in ensuring that there is no alkaline flavour in the noodles.

The one thing which stands out is the sauce. Their homemade chilli is cooked for 4 hours, hence they have the punch and the addition of black sauce gave it more character. It’s a healthier noodle version – with no sight of lard. But I think the black sauce kinda makes up for it.

πŸ“CCK190 Wanton Mee, Stall #01-110

Today’s lunch adventure was an impromptu one led by @imchaaa πŸ’πŸ»

I can never resist wanton mee, especially one that is made by family!

Hers, of course, not mine la hahaha πŸ˜‚

Auntie and uncle hard at work preparing all the delicious wanton mee, fried wanton and dumplings for us! πŸ˜πŸ‘†πŸ»

azure-isKsoBs3wuIDMuLUCoxo.jpg

Fried dumplings (5 for $3.50)

This shizzz is the da bomb. Everyone polished this plate of dumplings off really quickly because it was just too yummy la.

The dumplings are plump, meat filling is moist and has one prawn in each dumpling (full prawn hello, not tiny 1/8 of a prawn hahaha) and the skin is perfectly crisp!

ε€ͺε₯½εƒδΊ†! 😭

Reminds me of the homemade ones I get when my helper is in a good mood πŸ˜‚ lol!

azure-9eBoTy2FrozDhzFWMcda.jpg

Fried wantons (10 for $2.50)

After eating the generously stuff fried dumplings, these wantons seem to pale in comparison LOL

It’s still nice la but haih… The fried dumplings have ruined me.

If you prefer wantons over dumplings, order this! Hao chi also! The meat filling is more than most of the stalls I know πŸ˜‚

So this is what a wanton mee party looks like πŸ˜‹

Most of us opted for their original wanton mee with chilli, while @rave99was the only extra one who wanted to have his with black sauce also. You think pontian ah? πŸ˜‚

But anyway, it is offered too if you prefer that version! Just ask πŸ˜‰

You can also opt for the non-spicy ketchup version, which I also sometimes enjoy!

@imchaaa‘s mom chided her for eating the ketchup version LOL she said “so old alr still never advance” πŸ˜‚ (in Chinese of cos lol)

Fried/wanton mee ($2.50/$3.50/$4.50)
//
Fried/dumpling noodles ($3.50/$4.50)

The chilli sauce looks daunting, but it’s actually pretty okay!

The warm burn comes after it enters your tummy actually haha but it’s very tolerable and pretty yummy in fact.

They are still fine-tuning the accompanying sauces for the wanton mee, so you can only expect it to taste better each time you come πŸ˜‰

Noodles were springy or QQ as most people would say, char siew was tender (I usually don’t finish the char siew in wanton mee cus it’s so dry, yucky) and the swimming wantons in the accompanying soup was shiok!

They really do not scrimp on the meat fillings at all and that makes the whole meal more enjoyable of course! πŸ˜‹

Who wants to pay and eat 90% wanton skin and 10% meat only right lol I can cook for you if you want. So easy! HAHA

azure-J8OqIK8RZKAHtNvU5XiQ.jpg

You see!

I didn’t kid you when I said the dumplings were well-stuffed right?

Lookie at the prawn too! πŸ€πŸ˜‹

Sigh! I must have this again. It’s just so yummy that it definitely warrants a revisit!

If anyone’s interested to get their wanton mee fix, here’s the add:
